Googling the speed of flight of a mosquito gets you a speed of up to 1.5 MPH with an endurance of 10 minutes at that speed. What I found to be true based on my recent 3 mile hike on the Uwharrie trail South from HW109 is speed ~4MPH and same endurance. If I really hustled and got the benefit of a little breeze, the mosquito couldn’t keep buzzing in my ear.
I enjoyed this hike despite the 90+ F degree heat. It goes along a stream for a ways, crosses streams several times and has at least one stretch that is very straight. The level of fitness required is moderate there where a few uphill sections, if they were steep they were fairly short or more gradual, longer. Passed 5 campsites along the trail that were clean and ready for use.
Water doped a bit before I left and took about a quart of water with me that worked out perfect. Wore boots to reduce the risk of a sprained ankle.
A description of this trail says it gets medium to heavy use. Based on the number of spider webs across the trail I encountered, I was the first person to hike the trail that day.
If you hike the trail, hope you enjoy it as much as me!
